Team Lead (MAAG1) - Consumer Protection Division, Seattle

The Consumer Protection Division of the Washington State Attorney General’s Office seeks to hire a Team Lead to supervise a team of attorneys, develop and litigate consumer protection cases, and perform management duties within the Division.

In this position, you will get the opportunity to lead a team of attorneys serving some of Washington’s most vulnerable communities. While the CP Division’s work is for the benefit of all Washington consumers, much of the Division’s enforcement actions are focused on unlawful business practices that target people of limited means, veterans, the elderly, and immigrants. In this position, you would be at the forefront of these cases, and your work will have a direct, measurable impact on the lives of vulnerable Washingtonians.

This position will be based in downtown Seattle, WA. The AGO provides some flexibility with respect to schedules and telecommuting, consistent with the needs of the Office.

Successful candidates for this position must be interested in leadership and mentorship in a fast-paced, high-profile law office. Team Leaders supervise the day-to-day work of other attorneys, including reviewing work product, mentoring, and conducting performance reviews. Team Leaders are also expected to take on division-wide management and leadership responsibilities and assist with the development of Division litigation and enforcement priorities.

In addition to management duties, Team Leaders manage a robust caseload, including developing and filing consumer protection cases in state and federal courts and handling all phases of civil litigation, including discovery, motions practice, trial, and appeal. In addition to consumer protection litigation and enforcement, Team Leaders will advise the Attorney General’s leadership and policy staff on consumer protection issues. Candidates must be highly motivated and have a strong desire to enforce consumer protection laws and the ability to inspire others to do so.

If you are offered this position, you can expect to have a great deal of responsibility for and control over your daily work while also working with teams of attorneys who complement and cover for each other. As a Team Leader you will lead your own investigations and all aspects of civil litigation, including discovery, motions practices, and resolving cases through trial or negotiated settlements.  In addition, you will be expected to provide mentorship to your own team as well as other attorneys and staff within the Division.

Attorneys can expect to participate in high-profile consumer protection litigation such as State v. Navient (student lending), State v. Providence (charity care violations), State v. Google (unlawful privacy practices), State v. Chuck’s Towing (failure to comply with Servicemembers’ Civil Relief Act), State v. CA Certificate Services (government imposter), State v. Federal Way Discount Guns (unlawful sale of large capacity magazines), State v. Puppyland (predatory lending), State v. CLA Estate Services, Inc., et al. (financial exploitation of seniors), and State v. LuLaRoe (misrepresentations regarding profitability).
