Litigation has responsibility for managing consumer litigation (including without limitation breach of contract, consumer protection statutes, personal injury and other common law and/or statutory claims) for The Expedia Group companies worldwide. The Expedia in-house litigation team consists of experienced attorneys and paralegals who handle lawsuits and disputes worldwide and across a broad range of subject matters, including state and local tax, consumer claims, personal injury, intellectual property, and general commercial disputes in both foreign and domestic jurisdictions. The position will primarily manage individual consumer litigation, build processes and programs to effectively and efficiently manage the costs of defense, and advise business groups on how to best mitigate risks in a competitive environment. This position will be based in Seattle and report to Senior Corporate Counsel - Litigation.
What you’ll do:

Oversee and manage outside counsel for a portfolio of litigation focused on consumer litigation and arbitration
Work closely with paralegals supporting consumer litigation group
Develop and present regular training programs for customer service agents
Advise business groups on risk management issues
Partner with finance team on insurance claims
Provide assistance to senior attorneys on complex litigation matters if requested; and
Establish and maintain budgets and negotiate fee agreements for outside legal counsel
Who you are:
Candidate must have a J.D. from an accredited law school and a minimum of five years’ experience as a practicing lawyer
Proven ability to communicate; excellent and decisive legal judgment; pragmatic judgment and problem-solving ability a must
Ability to manage multiple projects and effectively navigate varied and fluid timelines and project goals also a must
This position requires the skills necessary to oversee multiple legal matters, handle a substantial portfolio of litigation, and effectively negotiate with pro-se litigants and opposing counsel
In-house experience in a diverse multi-national company a plus
As the position will involve frequent and extensive direct contact with customers, prior work experience in a customer service role is also a plus.
